Why can’t I deactivate members in bulk instead of doing one at a time?
Each time I do one at a time it brings me back to the main page.
Why not bring me back to the list of members so I don’t have to drill back down to get to that area to deactivate members.

This is the way the system was designed. We have a request somewhere in the community for Bulk deactivation and that is under consideration. Feel free to look for that one and add support to it.
