How to setup time slots for an Event (similar to Signup Genius)

How do you setup time slots for an Event that is similar to Signup Genius? For example, we have time slots to volunteer to sell items, Scouting for Food, horseback riding, etc. or if we need the parents to bring food or supplies to an event, etc. Currently, I am using Purchase Items to setup the time slots, but it confuses the parents and most times - no payment is actually collected. You would use Sign Up Sheets for that, they are located under the Communicate Menu.
