Legacy custom mail list and the new inbox

I have been working to train our users to use subdomains. Emails sent to either XXXX@trooptrack.com or XXXX@unit.trooptrack.email have been delivered to our members.

When I enabled the Inbox - Beta feature things stopped working. Emails to the old @trooptrack.com continued to work, however emails sent using the sub domain stopped being delivered. I did some digging and found subdomain emails were ending up in the Junk folder because there was no mailbox.

Is there a way to automate the migration of the custom mailing list to the new inbox format? Are we going to be stuck recreating all the old custom mailing list as inboxes? Is this functionality that may be considered in the future?
