Summit Pins - All Levels

The Summit Award for all of the levels was never updated as new Journeys were introduced. Initially, there were only three journeys for each level and you had to complete each of them to earn the Summit Pin for that level. Since then, there have been an additional 4 journeys introduced at each level, and you can earn any combination of three out of the seven in order to earn the summit pin. They can of course also be completed independently. Can the Summit pin requirements be updated to include the four additional journeys, which should be update in both locations when entered either under the summit heading or the individual journey. (On a side note, it would be nice if the Outdoor journey could be tied to the individual badge completions and update automatically there instead of having to track when a girl has completed all 2/3 badges and update an achievement.)

Here are the journeys for reference - as noted in previous posts, there is not a consistent entry on how the requirements are listed for the similar journeys at each level.

Hi @MegJakubik,

What year were these updated? That way when I create the new updated badge I can put a year on it to differentiate between the old and the new ones.

Let me know, and I can start putting these in for you!

TroopTrack

They aren’t updated or changed badges, they just aren’t entered consistently in all of the levels. The only thing that is “changed” is the expansion of the summit pin to accept any 3 journeys out of the 7 available at each level. And that happened once they new journeys were released.

Hi @MegJakubik,

So these are all summit awards for the different levels that need to be updated/made to match to these requirements then?
And the summit award is one award correct? Like for example the “Daisy” would need to complete all those 5 flowers, between earth and sky etc to earn the summit award?

I’m not familiar with Girl Scouts so I’m sorry for all the questions. I’m understanding what you’re saying more but just want to get it all correct when correcting these awards so I don’t cause a new issue for everyone.

Thanks,

David Keener

For each level, a girl has the opportunity to earn each of the seven journeys for that level (i.e. Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador). While the journeys are listed under their respective levels, how the requirements are listed in the badge book vary. For example some just have Think Like an Engineer as a single requirement. Some would have a check for the individual component projects and a requirement for the Take Action project. My point in writing out the requirements as I did was hopefully to get some consistency on how they are listed in the badge book. For instance, since my troop worked on the Junior Think Like An Engineer over multiple meetings, I couldn’t record the projects completed based on attendance since it wasn’t split out as an option. That means I’m tracking it offline so that I can let those that want to make up the journey know what they are missing instead of them being able to check their badge book independently.

For the summit pins - The pins themselves are only earned through the completion of three of the respective level journeys. It can be earned once each level. When they were initially released, there were only 3 journeys per level. Those are the ones that are listed as the requirements in troop track currently. Since that time, there have been 4 journeys added per level. Now to earn the pin, a girl only needs to complete any 3 journeys out of the seven. For example, while my daughter did earn the traditional journeys of Get Moving and Amuse, her third journey was the newer Outdoor Journey. In order to document the summit pin, I had to use the override completed date in recording the progress to document. But it also means I have to check each girls individual progress to count journeys to see when they have earned summit. The summit pin in dependent on the tracking of the stand alone journeys. It would be nice if the requirements for the journey components/summit progress were linked so that they could be entered in either place (either under the journey requirements or under the summit pin).

I’m also happy to speak with you to try to clarify this as I know it’s confusing.

Hi @MegJakubik,

Okay I get it! Previously there were 3 requirements (things they could do) for the Summit Pin, and now there are seven, so those extra 4 requirements need to be added. But when those are added they still only need 3 to complete the award, the girls basically just have more options.

I can definitely get those added for you. Thank you for your patience in this matter, and for your explanation. I know that probably took a little while to write out.

I will see if it’s possible that both can be updated together, however; I know that currently that’s not the case. Whenever awards are added they’re seen as separate inside the TroopTrack system.

Hi @MegJakubik,

I have added those awards in as new updated awards. This way girls who have already earned them don’t get those taken off in the TroopTrack system.

Thanks,

To me it seems redundant to put all the Journey requirements into the Summit Pins. Perhaps if nobody has used the updated ones yet, they could be changed to just list the names of the Journeys and not all the requirements.

I’m open to other ideas, but wanted to share my thoughts on this.

If they requirements can’t update simultaneously, that is actually a better option.

@Keener-Trooptrack, any update on this? The request is to reduce the requirements of the Summit Awards to:

Complete 3 of the following Leadership Journeys:

  1. It’s Your World, Change It (Journey has a different name at each level)
  2. It’s Your Planet, Love It (Journey has a different name at each level)
  3. It’s Your Story, Tell It (Journey has a different name at each level)
  4. Outdoor Journey
  5. Think Like a Citizen Scientist
  6. Think Like an Engineer
  7. Think Like a Programmer

Since the requirements can’t be updated simultaneously, this is actually the best solution.

@Keener-Trooptrack, I noticed that the Journey Summit Awards have been updated according to the original suggestion, rather than the consensus recommendation. Is there any way we can get the simplified requirements on the Journey Summit Awards?

I have a corollary request for the “Think Like a…” badge requirements to be listed under the “Think Like a…” badges. I currently have three levels of girls (Daisy, Brownie, and Junior) earning their Think Like a Citizen Scientist badges; and I can’t enter the progress for any of them. I’m currently keeping track of it on a separate sheet.

Ping… This is still an issue. The current entries make these awards very difficult for leaders and parents to track.
