TT staff is aware there is an email outage, this is affecting all users. There is no need to create new Topics or to send support tickets. The issue is being looked at and as soon as it is resolved I will post here in the community. Thank you.
Will we get a notification when this is resolved. It really has paralyzed us. Thank you for your support.
@BradleyDownen yes I will post it here in the Community.
They have identified what the problem is, it was an attack by a spammer and the e-mail provider paused delivery, they are working with them to get it back on. Once that happens it usually takes several hours for any messages in the queue to go through before new messages are able to be sent. I will post agian when I hear back stating it has been fixed.
Thanks Aaron. I appreciate the update.
I tried to post the same email a few times because of the failure. Will all emails be sent if those are currently in “Delivery Failed” or “Message Scheduled for re-delivery” status in the Recent Messages queue? Thank you.
If they are Failed then I doubt they will send, if they are scheduled for re-delivery they may, typically in the past queued and scheduled for re-delivery do send once the problems are fixed, in this case the reason for the outage is different so might affect the outcome of messages. If you are worried about a flury of messages sending after the system is fixed you could delete them, that should keep them from sending.
Thanks for the info @AaronStorey. I deleted a duplicate on the list shown above, which was in a Troop that has the Recent Messages
list. However, on another Troop I’m a part of, they don’t have Communicate > Recent Messages
menu item so I can’t see the list, and can’t delete. So, we’ll see what happens. It’ll be fine regardless. Thanks for following up!
If you don’t see Communicate - Recent Messages then you must not have the privilege for that Troop.
Its 10:30pm EDT here. Roughly six days after the problem was encountered and 12 hours after root cause was discovered.
As I’m sure with many units, many emails are blocked with upcoming trips and activities pending communication.
Looking for an update, thanks.
I would appreciate an update as well. Going into a busy weekend for the Troop, so would like to be able to set up a comms plan b if emails are expected to be down for the next few days. Many thanks for your continued help.
Same here on the update, we have several messages in the queue that need to go out. Thanks for your efforts.
Minor update, some SPAM protection fixes have been implemented to keep this from happening again however no word on the e-mail provider reapproval to send messages.
The current warning message on email screen is “Email delivery is not guaranteed to be instantaneous.” shown in green color. I think it should be changed to “Email delivery currently suspended indefinitely” and shown in red, if there is “no word on the email provider reapproval to send messages”. I have been sending emails and waiting for delivery and didn’t know about the outage until I did a Google search. Your current message on screen isn’t helpful, and honestly, misleading.
Wondering how to communicate with Scouts while TroopTrack email is down? See a workaround to email your troop, pack, patrol, or den.
Does anybody know if the email to invite new users are going out when you create new accounts? And if they aren’t will they be sent out when this is fixed?
@ChadGarn, Once the system is fixed then yes those invitation e-mails can be sent out. They may need to be re-initiated with a password reset function.
